Gym to Crag
Make the Transition From Climbing Gym to Outdoor Crag
If you have a bit of climbing experience in the gym, or your buddies just took you to the crag for the first time and you’re hooked, join our AMGA certified guides and instructors for a weekend of outdoor skill focused climbing. We are excited to teach you how to start rock climbing outdoors and make the transition from the climbing gym!
We get it, climbing outside can be intimidating, but it’s the most rewarding experience out there. Colorado is beautiful, and there is no better way to see it than dangling high above a hiking trail on an awesome classic climb. There are a lot of mountains to climb in Colorado, and feeling confident in your outdoor climbing ability will enable you to conquer even the most challenging peaks or sport routes you’ve only dreamed of.
When you are outdoors, it’s up to you to determine the most efficient, and ultimately, secure way to complete a climb. In this course, we’ll cover the basics of anchor building, risk management in the outdoor setting, route reading, and much more. The two-day format allows for more time to ask questions, and develop the specific skills you want to cover with our guides. The best way we’ve found to become a better outdoor rock climber is to, well, climb outside!
Being able to efficiently move through the mountains with confidence can be complicated, but the more tools you have in your tool belt, the easier it becomes to problem solve on the fly. Since you’ve been climbing in the gym a little bit, you understand how to move your body - awesome! Now let’s learn how to read routes, identify holds, spot hazards, read the weather, and crush some sweet sweet Colorado rock!
