This course is designed specifically for those seeking an introduction to this exhilarating winter sport. If you have a passion for skiing or riding and a desire to explore pristine and untouched snow, then this ski course is for you. With our expert guides and educators by your side, you’ll embark on a memorable journey through gentle slopes, amazing turns, and breathtaking winter landscapes. All while discovering the joys of backcountry skiing and building confidence and skills along the way.

Backcountry skiing is a unique and special way to explore the backcountry of Colorado in winter. You can escape the crowds of the ski resort, the overwhelming amount of traffic, and truly discover the beauty of Colorado as you carve turns down untracked slopes.

 This course is designed with your comfort and progression in mind. Our expert guides will assess your skill level on skis or splitboard, understand your goals, and tailor the course itinerary to ensure an optimal learning experience. You will be introduced to many different backcountry skiing techniques, including: skinning uphill, making kick turns, and executing safe descents. You’ll also learn about equipment selection, snowpack assessment, and essential safety protocols.

Throughout the course, our guides and instructors will provide patient and personalized instruction, empowering you to build confidence and develop your skiing or riding abilities. They will choose suitable terrain that strikes a balance between challenge and enjoyment, allowing you to gradually expand your comfort zone and explore new skills. Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where you can embrace the joys of backcountry skiing at your own pace.

 

Prerequisites:

Participants should be able to comfortably ski or ride blue runs at a ski resort.

  • Transportation. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from a designated meeting area
  • Backcountry ski setup or splitboard (These can be rented from many local ski shops)
