Description

If you’ve taken AIARE 1 or spent time in the backcountry and found yourself wanting to dig deeper into the different layers of a snowpack, this course is for you. The Avalanche & Snow Pit Course is designed for skiers, splitboarders, and winter travelers who want to build a deeper understanding of snowpack structure, avalanche problems, and how to apply snow science to real-world decision-making.

This hands-on course goes beyond basic pit digging. You’ll learn how to efficiently select a representative site, properly excavate and profile the snowpack, identify key layers and grain types that cause instability. This course is designed to build off your existing knowledge built during your AIARE 1, and is a great launching point into an AIARE 2 or Pro teaching track.
