Castleton Tower
Castleton Tower Rock Climbing
Castleton Tower is without doubt the most famous desert tower in the world. Rising almost 1,500 feet above the surrounding desert, this vertical playground is what climber’s dreams are made of. While the tower itself is only 400 feet tall, it’s position high above the ground make it one of the iconic and picturesque towers around.
First climbed in 1961 by Huntley Ingalls and Layton Kor, Castleton now sees hundreds of ascents a year and is one of the most photographed towers in the Moab area. The summit has even been the site of everything from car commercials to base jumping descents.
While there are routes on all sides of the tower, the three most popular routes to the top are the North Chimney (5.9), the Kor-Ingalls (5.9+) and the North Face (5.11a). All three routes feature excellent climbing on beautiful Wingate Sandstone with a plethora of different sizes of crack climbing and steep face climbing.
