Ouray Ice Park
Introduction to Ice Climbing Course
February 22-23, 2020
March 7-8, 2020
March 14-15, 2020
After brief introductions, your guide will fit you with a harness, helmet, boots, and crampons. The group will then travel two minutes to the Ouray Ice Park where your guide will set up a toprope and explain the theory behind anchor construction. If applicable, the group will rappel into the gorge and start belaying and movement lessons for the day.
The day begins with participants becoming involved in setting up the first anchor of the day. Day 2 is all about practice and refinement of the previous day's lessons. Those ready for steeper terrain will be shown techniques to progress. Your guide will also introduce you to ice screws, how they are placed, and how they are used to construct an anchor.
Maximum group size is 4.
This course meets at Peak Mountain Guides office in Ouray at 7:30am. Typically, this course is offered in the Ouray Ice Park, however, it is possible that some courses may spend time outside of the park.
